Ancient Sanctuary of Shri Madanantheshwara and Siddhi Vinayaka in Kasaragod
Madhuru is home to the revered Shri Madanantheshwara Siddhi Vinayaka Temple, an ancient and sacred site nestled on the banks of the Payaswini River in Kerala’s Kasaragod district. With mythological roots tracing back to the Brahmanda and Skanda Puranas, the temple is believed to have been consecrated by Parashurama and carries deep spiritual significance. The unique architecture, shaped like the back of an elephant (Gajaprishta), houses deities including Shiva (Madanantheshwara) and a distinctive idol of Lord Ganesha, locally known as 'Boddajja'. This temple has been a vital cultural, spiritual, and historical hub for centuries, drawing pilgrims and devotees from across South India. Annual festivals, traditional rituals, and historical relics—such as inscriptions and Tipu Sultan’s sword mark—highlight the temple's enduring legacy. Madhuru stands as a testament to Kerala’s rich spiritual heritage and the timeless devotion of its people.
